The Amara or Celtic Minor scale is a handpan version of the typical Irish or Scottish hexatonic Dorian/minor scale, a double mode created omitting the sixth degree of the Aeolian – or natural minor – scale.
Its application is very similar to the Integral scale, the two being versatile and very common. However, the Celtic Minor creates a more suspended mood, oriented towards minor 7th chords and sounds, and avoids the tension created by diminished chords. The Ding is the root note of the main Dorian/minor mode, opening to a number of melodic possibilities, as this scale can be comfortably used over at least three major and three relative minor scales, to be added to its original Dorian function.
